JCRC APPLAUDS PRESIDENT OBAMA’S VISIT TO BUCHENWALD CONCENTRATION CAMP
Minneapolis, MN – Steve Hunegs, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) applauded President Obama’s visit to Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany.
“Buchenwald stands as a stark reminder of the atrocities of the Holocaust. It must, as President Obama said, ‘…serve as a reminder of humanity’s duty to fight the spread of evil.’
“As the President visits the site where 56,000 innocent lives were lost it is important that we never forget those who perished in the Holocaust and commit ourselves that genocide never happen again. I would like to echo President Obama’s sentiment that, ‘”…it is now up to us, the living, in our work, wherever we are, to resist injustice and intolerance and indifference in whatever forms they may take and ensure that those who were lost here did not go in vain.’
“On the eve of the 65th anniversary of the Normandy invasion we also pay tribute to the courageous allied service personnel whose bravery throughout the European campaign made possible the liberation of slave and concentration camps.”
