Testimonials

“One of my newest activities is the Twin Cities Youth Interfaith Leadership Coalition. It sounds like a mouthful, but it is just a fancy name for some pretty simple things: listening, sharing, and learning. Once a month, teen members from Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Jewish communities come together and do those three simple things. We listen to others tell us about their faiths, we share our own personal beliefs and ideas, and, most importantly, we learn how the same philosophies can be reflected through such seemingly different religions.  I see it as a Venn diagram, with listening and sharing being the two separate circles that intersect to give us learning. In this sense, I have found learning to come only in the presence of both sharing and listening.”

“Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Cultural Center has found the connection with JCRC and Bet Shalom to be very rewarding and timely. The exchange of visits as well as the sharing of resources have been very inspirational for our communities. The new Muslim/Somali community could learn a lot from the experiences of the Jewish community in the Twin Cities. Our youth have also felt recognized and appreciated by opening them to interfaith and multi-cultural interactions. We look forward to the continuation of our cooperation in working for the common good of the Twin Cities.”

-Abdisalam Adam, Director of the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Cultural Center

“I am at a time in my life where I have the extra time to give back and volunteer. I have always wanted to be a role model to kids who are less privileged than myself and to other kids. I’m not volunteering to make myself feel better, but I am volunteering to be a positive role model for these kids.”

You were able to pull a lot of history ‘tid-bits’ we learn through the years into one coherent ‘story’. That was truly an ‘aha!” experience.

Participants came to the presentation with diverse opinions about the Middle East conflict and the presenter graciously encouraged those opinions to be shared. He was very respectful and fostered dialogue in a helpful, healthy manner. Everyone who attended became better informed.
