Housing & Homelessness
“The Brownie Crew”
When summer storms ripped through Felicia’s neighborhood, toppling trees and branches and further stripping her weather-beaten home of its paint, the elderly Minnesotan needed some assistance. After living in her own home for 30 years – much of that time alone, Felicia had lately struggled with its everyday maintenance after she developed recent health-related issues.
Justice Squared serves Felicia and others like her: folks who live on their own and who may not have the means or ability to effectively repair and revitalize their homes. In areas where many residents suffer from the same set of issues, Justice Squared volunteers jump in to participate in community revitalization projects that physically rebuild, repair and reinvigorate the neighborhood.
Known throughout the neighborhood for her friendly disposition and her knack at baking, Felicia armed her volunteer helpers with brownies, keeping them energized for their tasks of sanding, stripping and re-painting her home, as well as chopping fallen branches. The end product was a freshly painted home and garage and more importantly, a beaming resident!
Felicia’s strong nature and positive attitude allow her to continue to live on her own. With assistance from Justice Squared volunteers (aka “The Brownie Crew”), Felicia can take pride in her home and the friendly assistance she received.
