Welcome to the Minnesota Interfaith Darfur Coalition!
The Minnesota Interfaith Darfur Coalition was created by a collaboration of local synagogues, churches, and human rights and social justice organizations to help end the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan.
Genocide is raging in the Darfur region of western Sudan. Since February 2003, government-sponsored militias known as the Janjaweed have conducted a calculated campaign of slaughter, rape, starvation and displacement. The Sudanese government has failed to protect them. The government not only denies involvement with the massacres, but its police also have attacked displacement camps.

It is estimated that 400,000 people have died due to violence, starvation and disease. More than 2.5 million people have been displaced from their homes and over 200,000 have fled across the border to Chad. Many now live in camps lacking adequate food, shelter, sanitation, and health care. Many more will starve. Refugees face the threat of rape and murder every day.
The Minnesota Interfaith Darfur Coalition has engaged in fundraising, consciousness-raising, and lobbying on behalf of the people of Darfur. We held a rally on April 30, 2006 in conjunction with the Save Darfur campaign and we held a Minnesota Interfaith Day of Action on October 29, 2006.
Minnesota Interfaith Darfur Coalition partners include: Adath Jeshurun Congregation, Bet Shalom Congregation, Human Rights Center at the University of Minnesota, Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, Minnesota Council of Churches, and Temple Israel.

Thank you to the 1,000 volunteers who participated in Minnesota’s Interfaith Day of Action for Darfur
On October 29, 2006, volunteers joined the Minnesota Interfaith Darfur Coalition to pack food for refugees from the Darfur region of Sudan. Together with Feed My Starving Children, we were able to pack 143,000 meals. We were able to raise over $15,000 to be distributed to American Jewish World Service (AJWS), American Refugee Committee (ARC), Feed My Starving Children, and the Save Darfur Coalition. Volunteers also wrote hundreds of postcards urging U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to work towards a peaceful resolution in Darfur. Thank you to everyone who participated in this day of service and inspiration.
