In our world today, we feel it’s vitally important that teachers visit authentic, historic sites where the Holocaust happened; to experience the “power of place”. As truth and facts have come under siege, and antisemitism and extremism continue to rise, visiting places firsthand is to be a witness to the facts. Research has shown traveling to authentic sites is an effective tool in moving people from empathy to action.
The JCRC tour will deepen participant’s understanding of WWII and the Holocaust with focused time examining curriculum and resources. The program design will engage the research and scholarship of leaders in the field of experiential learning, historical thinking, and global perspectives.
Highlights include: Regensburg’s Jewish Quarter, Nuremberg, Munich walking tour, Dachau Concentration Camp, Krakow’s Jewish Quarter, Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, Oslo Jewish Museum, Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies, and Norway’s Resistance Museum. Along the way, special emphasis will include contemporary Jewish life.
Prerequisite includes attending two intro sessions via zoom. Post requisite asks participants to design a project and/or program that furthers Holocaust awareness in their own community.
