JCRC Stands in Solidarity with Israel in Defending Itself Against Rocket Attacks from Hamas-controlled Gaza

Seven civilians injured, including a 3-year-old and 6-month-old

Minneapolis, MN – Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC), issued the following statement:

“The JCRC stands in solidarity with Israel as it prepares to defend itself after a rocket originating in Hamas-controlled Gaza struck a residential building in central Israel and wounded seven civilians, including a toddler and an infant early this morning.  This terrorist aggression follows rocket attacks earlier this month that targeted Tel Aviv.

“In the face of this horrific terror targeting civilians, our thoughts and prayers are first and foremost with the families of the wounded, and members of Israel’s brave defense forces, intelligence, and first responders who are working furiously to ensure the safety for all Israelis.

“As President Obama’s Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro tweeted this morning, it is no coincidence that this escalation comes on the heels of Hamas’ severe suppression of peaceful protests by the Gazan people:

“Sadly, this cycle of violence is entirely predictable because we have seen it play out time and again:

“We stand in solidarity with all the people of Israel at this difficult time and for all those who strive for a more peaceful, just, and secure future.”

As the public affairs voice of the Jewish community, the JCRC fights anti-Semitism and prejudice, advocates for Israel, provides Holocaust education, promotes tolerance and social justice, and builds bridges across the Jewish and broader communities.
