Minneapolis, MN – Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC), issued the following statement in response to today’s settlement allowing an Islamic worship center to open in St. Anthony:
“The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) applauds the settlement allowing an Islamic worship center to open in St. Anthony. The freedom to worship in the United States is a right that must be defended for all Americans.
“The Muslim community is an integral part of the diverse and democratic society in Minnesota and we stand in solidarity with them. Judaism teaches us that all are created in the Divine’s image and with these beliefs we try to teach our children respect and dignity for all human beings.
“The JCRC thanks U.S. Attorney Andy Luger for his leadership and his office’s efforts to reach this just outcome.”
The JCRC… the public affairs voice of the Jewish community fighting anti-Semitism and prejudice, promoting tolerance and social justice, and representing Jews, individually and collectively.
