Minneapolis, MN – Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC), issued the following statement:

“The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) deplores the threat made on Twitter directed at local civil rights leader, Jaylani Hussein. According to news reports, the threatening tweet stated: ‘I will take you down. You are done I am pretty sure they will make it look like an accident.’

“We are disgusted by this anti-Muslim threat and we call on law enforcement to investigate this matter. We encourage anyone with information about this threat to come forward and report it to law enforcement.

“Perpetrators of these types of threats are intent on spreading a message of hate and challenging the openness and respectful atmosphere of our community. Collectively, we must reject these chilling acts and the hate they represent.”

As the public affairs voice of the Jewish community, the JCRC fights anti-Semitism and prejudice, advocates for Israel, provides Holocaust education, promotes tolerance and social justice, and builds bridges across the Jewish and broader communities.
