JCRC Stands in Solidarity with Israel in Defending Itself Against Latest Rocket Attacks

November 12, 2019

Minneapolis, MN – Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC), issued the following statement:

“The JCRC stands in solidarity with Israel amid intense rocket fire directed by Iranian proxies at civilian communities. Terrorists in Hamas-controlled Gaza fired over 190 rockets since early Tuesday morning in Israel, causing roughly one million Israelis to retreat to bomb shelters and forcing schools across central and southern Israel to close today and tomorrow.

“We note with gratitude the life-saving role of Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, which prevents mass casualties on the Israeli side and in turn creates the possibility of de-escalation, thus benefitting Gazan civilians as well.

“Next month, the JCRC will lead a delegation of Minnesota legislators and community leaders to Israel, including to some of the Israeli communities currently besieged by rockets. We will bear witness to the resilience of Israelis and gain a deeper appreciation for how American foreign aid, such as funding for Iron Dome, protects civilians on both sides.”

As the public affairs voice of the Jewish community since 1939, the JCRC fights anti-Semitism and prejudice, advocates for Israel, provides Holocaust education, promotes tolerance and social justice, and builds bridges across the Jewish and broader communities.
